First National Bank signs statement of support for National Guard and Reserve Members

JOHNSTON, Iowa (Sept. 18, 2012) – Steve Crittenden, First National Bank in Creston signed a statement of support for the National Guard and Reserve after hearing Medal of Honor recipient Sal Giunta speak about his military service in Afghanistan during the Iowa Bankers Association’s annual convention Sept. 17 at Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines.
A native of Iowa, Giunta was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service during an attack by insurgent forces in Afghanistan in 2007. He is the first living recipient of the honor since the Vietnam War.
By signing a statement of support with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), First National Bank’s leaders commit to:
• Fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA);
• Provide their managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve;
• Continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war; and
• Appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists, and Veterans.
Richard Rue, chair of the Iowa ESGR, said, "I wish to thank First National Bank in Creston & Afton for the outstanding support they have shown for the ESGR organization and our veterans. This was a very moving tribute, and I appreciate the bank’s commitment to our men and women in uniform."
First National Bank joined 30 other Iowa banks signing statements of support at the convention during a tribute honoring veterans.
