BOULDER, Colo. – Julie Lanning of First National Bank in Creston recently graduated from the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado (GSBC). Lanning was one of 164 graduates from across the United States to earn a diploma from the school this session.Julie Lanning headshot

“Graduating from this school is no easy accomplishment,” said Randy Huewe, president of First National Bank in Creston. “Julie has been a key leader at our bank and in our community for a long time. She’s always looking for opportunities to expand her skills and knowledge to better serve our staff and our customers.”

GSBC is a 25-month banking school that provides management and leadership training for community banking professionals.

Lanning spent six weeks in classroom training focusing on the areas of general management and technology, lending and human-resource management and financial management in banks.

Requirements for her graduation included comprehensive examinations, intersession research projects and participation in a bank management simulation course designed to provide students with experience managing a bank.

“Completing the coursework and projects associated with the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado is a great accomplishment for community bankers around the country,” said Tim Koch, president of Graduate School of Banking at Colorado. “Sponsoring organizations and communities should be very proud of the time and effort our graduates expend during their time in the program.”

Lanning said probably the most valuable part of the schooling was learning about loan portfolios and overall bank operations during the simulation as that’s not her normal course of business at First National Bank.

She added that networking and “comparing notes” with bankers from across the country, including the 12 Iowa bankers, was equally as rewarding.

Lanning is a cashier and vice president at First National Bank’s uptown Creston location. She’s been with First National Bank since 1989 and currently serves on the Creston Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Other bankers at First National Bank who have graduated from Graduate School of Banking at Colorado include Huewe (1995), Steve Crittenden (1998) and Sarah Young (2015). Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.
