Important: FNB improving security Aug. 22, outdated browsers need updated

It's no secret that, in today's world, fraudsters are continuing to become more advanced with their online attacks against consumers.

So, First National Bank will soon be making a move to stifle those online threats. On Aug. 22, we will be upgrading both our website and online banking platform to connect exclusively through TLS 1.2, which will ensure that your information remains private and secure.

With this move, we will no longer support TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1. That means older browsers will not open our bank websites after the date mentioned above.

Most browsers have supported TLS 1.2 for several years.Our reports show that less than 1 percent of FNB customers still utilize outdated browsers. Below are the browsers that are supported:

• Microsoft Edge: All versions supported
• Microsoft Internet Explorer: IE Version 11 or higher

  • Click gear icon on the right, then About Internet Explorer to determine version

  • Download IE 11: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer-11-for-windows-7-details.aspx

• Mozilla Firefox: Version 27 or higher

  • Click the menu button, Click Help, Select About Firefox

  • The About Firefox window will open and Firefox will begin check for updates and downloading them automatically

• Google Chrome: Version 38 or higher

  • Click on More (3 Dots) on the top right, If the icon is colored, then an update is pending. Click on Update Google Chrome if an update is pending. If you don't see this button, then they are on the most current version.

• Apple Safari: Version 7 & higher for OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) & higher

  • Click on Safari within the browser menu, click About Safari to determine browser version

  • Safari is included with a Mac. To install the latest version, they should install the latest version of macOS (operating system)

What if my device does have a TLS supported browser, but I still cannot view the website?

Once you have confirmed you are using a supported browser (listed above), please follow the instructions below for your specific browser to enable SSL versions TLS 1.2.

Internet Explorer

• Open Internet Explorer
• Click Alt T and select "Internet Options"
• Select the "Advanced" tab
• Scroll down to the "Security" section
• Locate and check "Use TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2"
• Then, press the "OK" button

Google Chrome

• Open Google Chrome
• Click Alt F and select "Settings"
• Scroll down and select "Show advanced settings..."
• Scroll down to the Network section and click on "Change proxy settings..."
• Select the "Advanced" tab
• Scroll down to the "Security" section
• Locate and check "Use TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2
• Then, press the "OK" button

​FireFox

• Open FireFox
• Type in "about:config" in the URL bar and press Enter
• Scroll down to "security.tls.version.max" and press enter
• Set the value to 3
• Then, press the "OK" button

Opera

• Open Opera
• Click Ctrl+F12
• Click on "Security"
• Click on "Security Protocols..."
• Press the "OK" button
• Then, press the "OK" button

There are no options for enabling SSL protocols. If you are using Safari version 7 or greater, TLS 1.2 is automatically enabled.
 

What is TLS?

TLS stands for Transport Layer Security, and is a cryptographic protocol used to establish a secure communications channel between two systems. It is used to authenticate one or both systems, and protect the confidentiality and integrity of information that passes between systems. Recently fraudsters have found vulnerabilities in older TLS versions (TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1).
