Students from four local schools will again be participating in the Money Smart Week Poster Contest this year.

This contest is hosted by First National Bank, Iowa State Savings Bank and PCSB Bank for second through fifth-grade students at St. Malachy, Mayflower Heritage, East Union and Creston school districts.

The poster contest question this year is "Why is it important to know about money?" There will be three local winners selected for this contest with each receiving an Amazon Fire tablet.

Students will also have a chance at winning state prizes provided by Community Bankers of Iowa and include a grand prize $600 Certificate of Deposit and $300 Certificate of Deposits for second and third place.

Contest rules and posters have been distributed to each school district. Posters must be returned to their teachers by April 11. Posters will be displayed in the three sponsoring banks during Money Smart Week, which is slated for April 22-29.

The mission of Money Smart Week is to helps consumers manage their personal finances better. The banks also believe the habits and know-how kids develop while growing up could lead to a life of financial security.

Last year, this poster contest received more than 180 submissions.
